Check out the cuteness! This liddle beauty just had his first birthday on Halloween, so as a birthday present, I changed his name. He is now called Spark, and he is most adorable indeed. Originally, I had named him Squirt, which fit him perfectly when he was a dracling, but now that he's grown a bit, I decided he needed a more dignified name. Hee!
On a similar note, has anyone read the Dragon Chronicals by Susan Fletcher? They used to be my all-time favorite books. The first one, Dragon's Milk, is about a girl named Kaeldra (the coolest name EVER) who can communicate with dragons. Her foster-sister, Lyf, has some rare uncurable disease, Vermillion Fever, I think. Kaeldra goes up into the mountains to find a dragon and get some of its milk, the mythical cure for Vermillion Fever. The dragon, whose name is Flagra, agrees to give Kaeldra milk in exchange for some babysitting. Flagra has a new litter of draclings and cannot leave her cave to hunt, for fear of the draclings getting into trouble, so Kaeldra watches the draclings while Flagra goes out hunting in exchange for a month's worth of milk. Of course, the draclings are not easy to watch, especially when they start learning how to fly. The villagers are angry because their livestock is disappearing, and they kill Flagra, forcing Kaeldra to flee the village with the three draclings. She is pursued by a wannabe dragon-slayer who is after the draclings, and she must find a way to outwit him, escape the seething village, and return the baby dragons to their kyn. The other two books in the trilogy are Flight of the Dragon Kyn and The Sign of the Dove. Highly recommended!
