so, Dragon Age

Not sure how I forgot to post all of these. Probably had something to do with the fact that I post my art to no less than three separate places on the internet and sometimes stuff slips through the cracks. Anway, here's more Dragon Age.

Enna and her duster bro, Leske. I went with the dwarf commoner origin story just for the heck of it, and boy was it a wild ride. (SPOILERS) You start out as an indentured mercenary who's forced to work for this gross pimp because he has your sister, and he makes you and your buddy Leske break into this sacred dwarf tournament that only nobles can fight in, and you have to take the place of one of them and fight in his stead because shady betting and stuff. But of course they discover your treachery and you're gonna get the axe for "polluting" the holy tournament but the kind Warden Duncan saves you and asks you to come be a Warden with him. Well, obviously Enna was like "dude hell yeah let's get out of this trash heap" and waltzed off without so much as a tear for her sister... although I guess we did kill that pimp anyway so she was free to go.

But anyway. She's got better armor now than she did when I drew these, but you get the idea.

I wish the character creator gave you the option of kinky curls, but since it's pretty limited, I'll just have to pretend.

Ohhh my god, so, Morrigan. I didn't originally intend to make a gay Warden, but I tell you, when Enna first laid eyes on Morrigan, that was it, that was the end, it was too late. And the real pity is that Morrigan is not romanceable by a female Warden. Seriously? There are so many bi characters in this franchise and Enna manages to immediately fall for a straight girl. Good job, kid.

To be fair, Morrigan is voiced by Claudia Black, my all-time biggest actress crush (she also did a minor character's voice in Mass Effect 3), and she truly has one of the most attractive voices I've ever heard. And in this game, she's snarky as all hell and isn't afraid to voice her opinions on just about anything, regardless of who she might be offending. I love her. Also, that's her honest-to-god outfit in the game and she is heinously attractive. (Oh my god and when Leiliana was talking about putting her in a red velvet dress, I was like 0.p)

Oh yeah, and (MORE SPOILERS) I was pissed that we lost Duncan so early in the game, especially because Alistair was so messed up about it. I imagine that while he and Enna were staying at Flemeth's recuperating from the beating that ogre gave them, they talked about Duncan a lot.

I like Dragon Age so far, the characters are very engaging and it looks like the story is gonna be cool. I'm just not a huge fan of the combat. I feel like I have to micromanage everyone on my team all the time or they wander off and get themselves killed. Maybe I'll get the hang of it as I keep playing. Fingers crossed anyway. Right now I'm stuck in Redcliffe castle because I was stupid and didn't level everyone enough before going in there and now I'm just getting TK'd over and over by... the undead, I guess? Whatever. I just hope I don't have to load a really old save.

tablet crazy

Well, I'm kind of proud of myself for continuing to crank out arts with this tablet, especially since I tend to be really listless and bleh in the summer and sit around on the internet and accomplish nothing, like the lazy twentysomething I am. But yeah, another young colony kid Shepard holding an unidentified farming implement and pining for space.

Also, it occurred to me today, just in passing, that since acquiring this tablet I hadn't colored a picture of Jack yet, which is criminal because her tattoos are beautiful and deserve to be rendered in color. And then I sat down and knocked this out in one sitting. Because by golly if I don't finish arts in one sitting I don't finish them ever.

Neither of these things are what I've been intending to draw for the past several days, which is Vega and Cortez with some adopted kids post-ME3. We'll see whether that actually happens or not. Maybe this weekend.

Oh, and I just realized that I never posted this James doodle:

Or the finished version of the Garrus Down comic page:

Orrrr a whole stack of Dragon Ages stuff that I will save for another post, since there's a lot of it and I need to yell about that separately.

Only three more episodes of The 100 and then we have to wait for the new stuff just like everybody else. Sucks.

so, real life for a sec

Check it out, I'm putting more crap on the walls in my room. Because I can. Also, I hung that star lantern from Italy myself with an electric drill and everything and did not injure myself or set anything on fire.

And it looks great. So there.

I think this wall is going to be my travel wall, where I put up stuff from my globetrotting adventures during college. And dude, video games totally count as travel. Especially games that take you to other galaxies thanks very much.

Also, and completely unrelated, I'm still figuring out new ways to wear my hair when it's this short. My hair doesn't like to slick back from my forehead on its own, so today I coerced it.

So there's a small slice of life for you. In other news, my mom and I got ourselves seriously hooked on The 100 and we're almost through the second season. It's so intense man. And I'm still waiting for gays. I was told there would be gays.

Rather Be (Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne) - Welcome to Night Vale

I have another KP-draws-to-the-radio for you! I like how this turned out.

If you gave me a chance I would take it
It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it
Know with all of your heart, you can't shame me
When I am with you, there's no place I'd rather be

When I drew this, Cecil and Carlos were still doing long distance and had been for about a year, so I decided this song was a good fit (and a good way to emotionally injure my boyfriend, you're welcome Matt).

Night Vale is eating my life

And you know what's really interesting about the Night Vale fandom, especially the artists, is that there are these magically established headcanons that one person puts out there and then everyone else is like "dude that's a great idea" and spreads it like wildfire. For example, I do not recall Cecil ever mentioning in the podcast that he has tattoo sleeves on both arms, but you rarely see him drawn without them. It's like the Night Vale fandom has a collective consciousness. Also the glowing third eye on his forehead. Pretty sure not mentioned in canon material. See it everywhere anyway.

Also, I love how we all decided Cecil looks so dapper and wears waistcoats all the time and then whenever he talks about his clothes in the podcast he's casually wearing the craziest things. Must draw more fashion disaster Cecil.

Also, for the wide variety of Cecils people draw (in terms of clothing, hair color and style, ethnicity/skin color, and the extent of his tattoos), there's comparatively little variation in everyone's Carlos designs. He tends to be just cute and middle-aged and brown with curly hair and a lab coat.

I had to draw this scene while listening to Old Oak Doors part B because it was just too epic and I couldn't really scream about it on the plane to China.

And then all the ouchy happened and I drew it because apparently I like hurting myself. I frickin hate long distance. Mine or other people's.

I can basically guarantee you'll be seeing more Night Vale from me. Because I'm sad gay trash.

Except not so sad at the moment because 50 STATES OF GAY THAT'S RIGHT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

leaving for China tomorrow night!

And while I'm there, I will have basically no contact with the good old USA, and not much in the way of Internet. So have some stuff before I go.

Babby farmer girl Shep, growing up in the fields of Mindoir.

And, for Anna, a very quick and messy Scully kissing Mulder's head. (I will watch this show someday, I swear.)

One of these days I really am going to finish my Italy blog, and I'll probably add pictures from China to the end of it as well.

ALSO NIGHT VALE HOLY CRAP IT'S KILLING ME.

welcome to Rannoch

You may remember a doodle I did in my notes of Tali without her envirosuit recently. Yes, no? In any case, I cleaned it up digitally and colored it for fun.

Because more alien-looking quarians are important to me and Tali'Zorah, Space Princess is also important to me.

Pretty Girls (Britney Spears & Iggy Azalea) - Mass Effect

Friends, I'm doing a thing.

Aaaand the thing is: drawing to the radio!

All around the world, pretty girls
Wipe the floor with all the boys
Pour the drinks, bring the noise
WE'RE JUST SO PRETTY
All around the world, pretty girls
Jump the line, to the front
Do what we like, get what we want
WE'RE JUST SO PRETTY

I keep hearing the same overplayed songs on the radio in the car on my way to and from work every day, and they keep giving me ideas of stuff to draw (this time, it happened to be my Shepard, Liara, and Ashley being fabulous). I decided to roll with it and do a series. Which means expect more of these. Probably just as silly as this one.

In other news, Night Vale. Get the hell on it. I am.

yet more mass effect things

I'm telling you right now, I will never stop. Never.

Took me long enough, but I finally finished this other drawing of Anna's Wren Shepard! And then couldn't decide whether to give it a background or not. Which looks better, do you think?

Anna, you gotta play more of this game. For serious, it's so good and it will mess you up and you will love/hate every minute of it.

And in other news, Cortega. Hope nobody needs to borrow my notes for the rest of the semester since they're clear full of gay porn. *slam dunks self into trash can*

anatomy of a palace

So for some reason I decided to spend even more hours in the digital lab than usual by choosing, of my own volition, to do a digital painting instead of writing a paper for my religion class. It was fun actually, except for the fact that I understand Flash waaaaay better than Photoshop at this point and am confused about why some of the tools that have the same name function so very differently. For example, the fill tool. The little paint bucket? Handles completely differently in Photoshop. Don't ask me why. I asked the internet and still couldn't figure out how to make it ignore gaps. Jesus. Anyway, here's the Palace of Illusions, from the book of the same title by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, and Sikri from The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie.

I got this printed as a 11'-17' poster and it looks pretty awesome. Also, color printing at the Print Center on campus is super cheap and I'm going to take full advantage of that fact in the future.

Finals coming up soon. Peace out y'all.

animation projects

This class alternates between being super chill and super intense and it's sort of giving me creative whiplash a little bit. Several weeks ago, we did a five-to-seven second rotoscope in which we were supposed to change something to make it more fantastical. I did a home video of Brennie and I beating on each other with foam swords but turned us into Jedi.

The project took about 45 hours over the course of two weeks and was absolutely crazy. I actually made myself sick working on it for seven hours at a stretch multiple days in a row, but that said, I think it turned out pretty sweet.

Then we did a week or two of derpy in-class assignments meant to teach us the basic principles of freehand animation, like staging:

arcs:

and character modelling:

These assignments were meant to only take an hour or two apiece and be super simple. I think I only spent a few hours in the digital lab outside of class that week. It was sooooo chill. But now there's this new hardcore project where we're in groups of three producing ten seconds of film apiece that focus on a common theme. We have, you guessed it, two weeks.

I really liked that blue-haired girl I drew, who also showed up in one of our first projects, the thaumatrope. See, there she is.

Actually, both of these chicks have showed up in my notes before.

So I decided to use them for this assignment.

I'm definitely learning a lot about Flash with this project. That whole set is one very large very complex symbol, and I have a whole nother one to make for the close-up shots.

So that's where this class is going. It's a great time, and I don't even hate spending that much time drawing - in fact, I love it - but I do wish we had slightly more room in the syllabus for, y'know, sleeping.

Thing of the Day: A Night to Remember by Betty Who

I just love this. So much. Wow.

I think I've played it like fifty times today. Her voice is one of my favorite kinds of voices and this track has a great groove. Also... she's coming to Olaf on Friday and I'm sooo pumped.

Thank you, Mads, for turning me on to this awesome artist. You always have the best taste in music.

so this star wars roleplay

is quite a time.

Leth is a blast to play.

After we got surrounded by some mercenaries in the last session, Leth was forced to finally use her lightsaber in public and do some leaping around and she cleaved some guys in half and it was epic.

Oops what.

So after taking a shot to the shoulder while they were escaping the Separatist base a few weeks ago (and seducing Hippolyta on the way back to Coruscant), Leth had some real talk with Hip while getting patched up. I finally got her to tell most of her tragic backstory and why she has such a what-if-I-can't-protect-you complex, hooray.

Also help they're cute.

This was right after they managed to defuse the bomb on the Separatist escape shuttle and very narrowly avoided certain obliteration.

Hip.

And this is Ssussexx, Matt's Trandoshan noble. He's very fancy, very small, and almost entirely useless at everything except first aid, at which he is an actual genius and can basically reanimate corpses.

And finally Moss, Riley's Bothan scout.

I'll do my best to draw Connor and Josh's characters at some point as well.
